I started looking for an apartment 5 months after I arrived in Japan, after I already settled imigration, insurance and other issues.It looked for apartments for around 1 month so, in total, it took me 6 months to start living alone.

どんな物件に住みたいと思っていましたか？

お部屋探しのきっかけと、探し始めた時期

I am from Brazil, so I lived in a dormitory when I first arrived in Japan. However, I didn’t feel comfortable sharing the room in Global Village and this motivated me to look for a place for myself. I started looking for a place at the beginning of February and actually moved to it in April.

はじめてのお部屋探しや、一人暮らしについて不安だったこと

The biggest problem for me was the language barrier. Since I don’t speak Japanese yet, I was afraid of going to a real estate agency. Additionally, I have problems contacting services for the apartament until now.

宿舎や自宅通学とどのように比較しましたか？

I like the privacy of living alone and having my own kitchen and bathroom. I didn’t like to share these spaces in Global Village. The only issue is the price because renting an apartment is more expensive than the dormitory not only in rent, but also in the electricity, gas and water bills.

間取り・家賃・地域等、お部屋探し開始時の希望条件は？

・1K at least
・At most 20 minutes from the university by bike
・Rent should be less than 40,000円
・Separate bath and toilet, AC, 2nd floor and washlet on the toilet

優先順位①　Price
その理由：I wanted to not spend much in rent in order to spend my money in other things
優先順位②　Should NOT be on the 1st floor
その理由： I think living on the 1st floor lacks privacy.
優先順位③　Separate bath and toilet
その理由：I like to take baths in the bathtub and I believe it would be comfortable if it was right beside the toilet

【ツカダハイツD】のお気に入りポイントを教えてください

The room is clean and I usually can’t hear the neighbors. There is a combini near it and some restaurants, so it is very convenient.

I would like to be presented with more apartment options. When I was in the agency, they showed me only 3 properties and maybe I would have preferred to live a little farther from the university if the rent was cheaper.

Additionally, many of the documents and information on the website were in Japanese only and it would be helpful to have the3m in English too.

初期費用はどの程度かかりましたか？

I think the initial cost was average compared to other properties here in Japan, however, in my country we usually don’t have many costs when moving in so I was surprised by how much we have to pay.

保護者目線で心配していた点は？その結果【ツカダハイツD】で良かった点は？

Since I am living very far from my country and the culture is totally different, I didn’t consult with my parents about it. The only thing I talked with them about was the price, however I don’t think it is fair to compare rent prices from Brazil and Japan.

【理工学群】から見た【春日四丁目】に住んでの感想やおすすめ点

I think Kasuga is a very good place for students because of its proximity to the University. There are restaurants and combines near my place so I feel it is also very convenient. Because this area has lots of students and foreigners, I don’t feel too much out of place living there,

【春日四丁目】に住んでみて、いまいちだったことは？

Because many students live around the area, I would say it is not the quietest neighborhood. Additionally, I think I pay extra for living that close to the university and I would be fine living a little farther if I could save the money instead.

おすすめのお店①　Claret
理由：This restaurant is not exactly in Kasuga, but it is near enough and I love the food there.
おすすめのお店②　Ran Ran
理由：A restaurant near my place that serves very big portions.
おすすめのお店③　Matsuya
理由：A chain restaurant that is good when you want to have food fast and cheap.

【理工学群】のあなたから見て、住みたい地域やあったらいいなと思う家の設備は？

At the moment, I would like to live somewhere farther from the university because my classes are being held online and I could save money or get a bigger place, with a dining room separated from the kitchen, for more or less the same price.  

新生活を始める後輩に対してアドバイスをお願いします！

Even if your classes are held only online, try going to campus to meet new people and make connections. Also, try having separate spaces for working/studying and for leisure time, this makes you be more productive when studying and have a more enjoyable time when resting.
